In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs in just 6 months. It was a combination of pop and reggaeton which not only brought attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it into the top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma for Medellin, 2019 In the year 2020, some reggaeton musicians felt dissatisfied with the direction the genre was shifting toward more mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation of musicians who are determined to shift the trajectory of. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted method.
